Level 1
You will exit the aircraft with two instructors holding onto you. Then you will carry out a series of checks in freefall, looking at the altitude and location of the handle used to deploy your parachute.
You will be responsible for opening your main parachute, although your two instructors will assist you if necessary.
Level 2
As per level one, but the student will also perform two 90 degree turns.
Level 3
As per level one, during the skydive the instructors will release their grip, allowing the student to fly solo for the first time. Each instructor will only be a hands reach away from re-gripping the student if necessary.
Level 4
From level 4 onwards, the student will jump with only one of the instructors.
The instructor will release and the student will carry out two 90 degree turn, before the instructor re-grips, ready for you to deploy your parachute.
Level 5
As per level 4, but this time the student will make a 360 degree turn.
Level 6
This is the first exit when you will jump alone, with the instructor not holding onto you, but by your side. Then you will complete a back loop in mid air, allowing you to regain stability. After this, you will change your body position slightly to allow you to move horizontally across the sky (called a ‘track’).
Level 7
This is the last level jumping with an instructor. Your exit will be ‘unstable’ e.g. a forwards roll out of the plane. The instructor will exit simultaneously and observe the rest of your jump. You’ll do a track, and two 360 degree turns before deploying your parachute.
Level 8
After passing level 7, you can complete level 8 straight away, or try some consolidation jumps first.
Level 8 consists of a solo exit and opening of your parachute within 10 seconds, observed from the aircraft by your instructor.
Consolidation Jumps
The consolidation jumps are designed for you to consolidate the knowledge you’ve learnt on the AFF course. You are going from your maximum altitude. Level 8 can be completed any time before, during or after your consols. Once the consolidation jumps have been completed, you are no longer classed as a student.
